If I See One More Headline About Her....

...I think I'll puke.

I have my Yahoo settings arranged so that anytime Yahoo sees an article with any of the subects I've chosen, they will send me an email listing the articles. I have some varied subjects, such as:

Diabetes
Anxiety
Depression
Diet Coke
Panda
Jeff Gordon
NASCAR
etc.

The big one now seems to be that poor Angelina Jolie has gestational diabetes (which she has been trying to keep under wraps.... shhhhhh!) Sunday morning, here are how many headlines came up on the subject of Angelina.

Pregnant Jolie suffering from diabetes?
Source: Jolie has gestational diabetes
Exhausted Angelina Jolie is 'suffering from diabetes'
Jolie suffering from diabetes?
Angelina Jolie - Pregnant Jolie Suffering From Diabetes
Source: Jolie has gestational diabetes

As Charlie Brown would say, "Good grief!".

Is there no other news related to diabetes to read today? Don't get me wrong. I'm sorry Angelina has gestational diabetes. That's too bad. I don't wish that on anyone. I do hope her babies are okay. But what about the little no-name kid down the street whose parents have to give him/her 10 shots of insulin a day just to try to keep this disease under control? Where is that headline? Why isn't the media saying something special about that kid?

It just kind of makes me sick (as you can tell) that celebrities get so much attention when they develop something that the rest of us are already dealing with on a constant basis. What makes them sooooo special? Is it because she's stepping out in the middle of the day wearing an evening gown, carrying her little girl with a bag of chips, and walking with two of her adopted children. BTW, where is the other one? Did she forget him for this family photo shoot?

Some of the articles say that's she's feeling tired & heavy & that she has to wear bigger shoes because her feet are swollen.

Take a look at that picture. Do her feet look swollen to you? I wish my feet had been that swollen when I was pregnant. I had "cankles" - in other words - no ankles. My calf, ankle & foot were all one size - HUGE! They swelled up over the top of every pair of shoes I owned. Her feet are swollen? You can see the bones in her feet for heaven's sake! I didn't think I even still had bones in my feet when I was pregnant!

I haven't heard what Ms. Jolie is saying about her diabetes. But it seems all the articles I've had the stomach enough to read all say it's type 2. Whether that's true or not - I don't know. I don't know if Angelina knows. Who knows? I just hope she doesn't come out and start saying stuff about how some voodoo doctor cured her of her gestational diabetes or she weaned herself off of it like she will wean herself off of her twin pregnancy in a few months. Right, Jeff? LOL!

Hi, been reading you for a while...first time commenting.

I totally agree with you. While it's impossible to tell the story of every single child with diabetes, I don't understand why the people we are supposed to look up to, our celebrities, are so flippant with their statements about diabetes. Why do they get so much attention? They are modern day culture heroes...but they should be doing something heroic. Advocating for their disease instead of endorsing some kind of snake oil.

Hi Ashley! Thanks for stopping by. I agree with you. While I haven't heard what Ms. Jolie is saying about her diabetes, it seems the celebrity world is full of people saying the wrong things about it. It's really too bad. They are in such a great position to be advocates & educate. Yet it seems they get their wires crossed & can't get the information straight. Maybe Angelina will be different. We'll see... I'm sure there will be more headlines - I'll try not to puke. LOL!

First she follows me into international adoption, and now she copies my diabetes. If I didn't know any better, I'd think Angelina wants to be just like me:)

I think you're right, Toni. She wants to be you! What a copycat! :)

Hi Donna.

For her own sake, I am hoping that Ms. Jolie is better at managing her diabetes than she is at acting.

If you or I went about our day performing tasks at the same level of defficiency so common among Hollywood elite's acting capabilities, no one would have anything to do with us.

So why all the fuss over these self-absorbed "stars?"

Beats me.
