The Greatest!

"The Greatest" is my theme today because that's the best way to describe my Sussy Pal & the great gifts I received from her today. Thanks so much, Allison! You're the greatest!

Below are photos of my gifts. They are the greatest!

These warm fuzzy socks are gonna be so nice to wear tomorrow as I lounge around the house recouperating from my thumb surgery today. (More on that tomorrow). These socks are perfect. They are so warm, soft, comfy and my favorite color - PURPLE! Yay! The weather is freezing here in Indiana right now, but my feet are gonna be warm & toasty in these thanks to Allison.
My other gift is a book, Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. Perfect timing! I needed to have something to read while lounging around the house recouperating from my surgery wearing my warm fuzzy purple socks. Things couldn't be more perfect!
Allison - you are the greatest. I love these wonderful, thoughtful gifts. And they came at the most perfect time. Thank you so much!

P.S. A big thanks to Beth & Amylia for arranging the Sussy pal thing. You guys are the greatest, too!

Well, Duh!

Well, I did it today! You would think that as much junk as I carry with me to work everyday in that rolling briefcase that I would have at least one AAA battery with me. But, noooooooo! I had AAs instead.

Here's what happened. I had one line left on my battery gauge on my pump so I knew I was going to need to change it sometime soon. Sure enough, about 10 am, my pump vibrated & gave the message of low battery. So I disconnected my set & opened up the battery compartment on my pump. Then I checked in my purse for the extra AAA battery that I thought was there. Guess what? It wasn't there. So I checked my briefcase & my diabetes bag of goodies - nothing. Then I started to panic a little. I went around to each of my co-workers & asked if any of them had a AAA battery. Everyone seemed to have AAs, but no AAAs. Ahhhh!

By this time, 15 minutes had passed so I thought I would just see if the old battery would work just a little longer - please! But no, I got a blank screen. I checked my BG and it was 145. I was still in the okay range - especially for driving. So I finished up some things that HAD to be done today & they only took a few minutes. Then I was outta there!

It usually takes at least 1/2 hour to 45 minutes for me to get home. But I needed to stop and get a few groceries at Walmart on the way home. So I thought I would go into the store, buy some AAA batteries, go back out to the car & put them in my pump, then go back in the store & do the rest of my shopping. This would actually get me the batteries a lot quicker than me driving all the way home. But I was still getting a little nervous.

Before I left my parking garage, I checked my BG. I thought if it's already climbing, I had a syringe in my bag so I could do what Kerri suggested yesterday & give myself a shot using the insulin from my pump. (What timing on your post, Kerri! Thanks!) That made me feel a little better. But when I checked my BG, it was 110. What? 110??!! I was going lower without ANY insulin. I know; I'm weird...

So I left work & headed to Walmart which was about 20 or so minutes away. By the time I got there, I checked my BG again & it was 95 this time. If I had been thinking straight from the beginning of all this, I would have remembered that this was my lower part of the day anyway. I really shouldn't have worried so much. But I digress..

Since my BG was 95, I just went in & did all my shopping. I was in there about an hour because I went ahead & replaced some of my stolen CDs. I found a lot of them on sale for less than $10! So I bought a few.

By the time I got done shopping & back to my car, my BG was down to 64 so I ate part of a candy bar. I still hadn't had any insulin since 10 am. So I sat in the car till my BG got a little higher. Then I put in the new batteries, reattached myself to my pump & went to lunch with my husband at McDonald's. It was double-cheeseburger time! I usually opt for something less fatty. But I had a stressful morning & thought I deserved it. And it was so good!
When I got home, I put some of the new batteries in my purse & some in my diabetes goody bag in my briefcase. I should be safe for a while. But I couldn't believe I didn't have any with me earlier. All I can say is:

My Saturday Christmas Gift

I just wanted to share a few pictures from when our family got together on Christmas morning. I got a really great gift which coincides with the title of my post today. I'll share more about that later.

This picture is of the boxes, wrapping paper, bows, tags, etc. from our gifts all scattered on the floor. The dogs were really confused by this mess. They didn't know whether to plow through it or go around. They pretty much just waited for us to clean it up or just stayed in their rooms (kennels) before they tried to walk through the living room. I don't blame them; it was a mess.

This is my son-in-law. He's glued to the TV because they had cowboy movies all day on Christmas on AMC. He loves these movies. We gave him a DVD of The Cowboys (with John Wayne) & he was so thrilled! This is a great movie. If you look closely to the left side of the picture, you can see Brutus in his kennel. He was still pretty confused at this point.

Below is a picture of my daughter & my son. They treat each other so much nicer now that they're grown up. I didn't ever think that would happen. But it's really nice.

Oh, my son & I gave each other the same gift - a DVD of Rocketman (with Harland Williams). It's kind of a lesser-known film from 1997. It's rated PG, but I think it's pretty safe for the whole family. IT IS HILARIOUS! My son & I used to watch this movie together when he was younger & he already had it on VHS. But his VCR doesn't work anymore & neither does ours. So we both thought this was a good gift for the other person. It was perfect! If you ever want to watch just a silly, happy movie, this is a great one.

Below is a picture of my husband & daughter. He is holding up the Harley motorcycle lamp our daughter & son-in-law got him. It was the perfect gift. He loved it. The motorcycle is just like the real one we have. The headlight works & it makes engine noises when you push a button. He really liked it.

Now for the explanation of my post title today. Drumroll please........

Tada! A Jeff SATURDAY Colts jersey. This was my favorite Christmas gift this year. I look like a linemen in this photo since the jersey is so big (and so am I), but I don't care. My husband said he got the last one of these that Dick's Sporting Goods had. So I was very lucky to get it.

I gave my husband a Jeff Saturday jersey for Christmas last year & then I wanted one myself. My daughter & son-in-law are Jeff Saturday fans, too. So I got each of them jerseys. My daughter is already wearing hers in the pictures above. Our son doesn't really care for football jerseys anymore. He wore his school football jerseys when he was in school so he's not ready to wear jerseys again yet. He's only been out of high school for a few years so I think those days are still fresh in his mind. Those were the good old days to him and I don't think he wants to return just yet. So he got a Colts T-shirt instead.

Anyway, I like Jeff Saturday because he's such a good Center for the Colts & such a great guy. (The offensive linemen usually get very little credit in the press. This has always bothered me because my husband, son, and son-in-law were all offensive linemen in high school. Believe me, these guys work HARD. They've got a tough job & get little recognition for it. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry.) Anyway, I've written about Jeff Saturday & other people in the Colts organization before. Many of them are involved in charitable organizations - including those helping kids with diabetes.

So I'm happy to wear my Jeff Saturday jersey. My husband got me exactly what I wanted.

The only thing I wanted more was a cure for diabetes & I'm sure he would have gotten that for me if he could have. I would have shared that one with all of you. But I'm keeping the Jeff Saturday jersey for myself. LOL!

Hope you all had a great Christmas!
